Here's the Problem with Non-Custom Branding Images

Ready for my hot take?

As a photographer, you might expect me to have strong feelings about stock photography – and you'd be right! But not for the reason you might think…

I'm a firm believer in sharing images that have a purpose. Posting a photo that's “good enough” or sharing a photo that “looks nice” isn't doing you or your brand any favors. In fact, it does just the opposite!

HERE'S THE PROBLEM WITH SHARING NON-CUSTOM BRANDING IMAGES:

One-Size Doesn’t Fit All

Images that don't tell YOUR story (either you personally or your brand's story) aren't custom images. If another brand in another industry could use your photos on their website, your photos are cookie-cutter… annnnnnd cookie cutter images are boring and way to easy to scroll on past (aka. They don't leave a lasting impression).

“But Bre, how can I fix my cookie-cutter images?”
Just like your business plan, branding photography should be custom. Yes… you can even have custom stock photos that are branded specifically to you to post when a specific image isn't required.

Custom images help set your content apart and blend perfectly with your overall aesthetic!

Here are 3 ways to do exactly that!

1. Let Your Personality Shine

It's OK to get a little silly! Those goofy quirks make you relatable to your audience and builds connection!

If you're obsessed with your work-from-home coworker (aka your dog or. cat), share it!

Let the things that make you YOU shine!

2. Use Imagery to Tell Stories

Do your images match the stories your copy is telling? A branding photography session lets you decide what stories you want to tell. You can showcase:

  • your process

  • client experience

  • celebrate a company milestone

  • promote a new product launch

  • … the opportunities are endless

3. Infuse Your Brand Colors

Include pops of your brand colors to tie it all together. This helps your images to feel cohesive with your brand as a whole and look like they belong on your website.

The best-added bonus? This subtly increases brand awareness in every social post!
