We Can Ride

Client Showcase

I was invited to a shoot at a horse barn— but not just any horse barn.

One thing that I love about what I do is that no two shoots are ever the same. My work takes me all over the place… from manufacturing plants to soap labs, I’ve made a lot of places my studio for the day!

But this one was extra special.

These horses improve their riders through therapeutic exercises and activities.

I had heard of horse therapy but had never understood what it really meant or what it all entailed.

Once I arrived at We Can Ride, I knew I was in for something rare. I learned that without its volunteers, We Can Ride wouldn’t be possible. The vast majority of the care for the horses and client appointment assistance is made possible by the generous time spent by volunteers— some of whom volunteer upwards of 40 hours per week!! That alone is pretty incredible to me!

I was allowed to photograph a few client sessions and get a first-hand look at what goes into their appointments and how they help their clients. It’s pretty freakin' amazing the wide array of special needs horse therapy can work with clients seeking physical, occupation, speech or language therapy.

One rider has been coming to weekly therapy there for years and has seen massive improvements in his daily life.

I followed the riders throughout their appointments, followed the volunteers as they managed and completed their tasks throughout the day, and acquainted myself with the horses… many of whom are older horses and extremely relaxed and predictable.

** For the privacy of the riders, I will not be posting any images where their identities are revealed. Images that feature identifiable individuals either work or volunteer at We Can Ride.

It’s shoots like this that have me pinching myself that I get to do this work and help businesses serve their own clients and customers in better ways.
