Spoonful Apparel:

Client Showcase

I’d been wanting to document the woman behind Spoonful Apparel for a long time!

So when the opportunity finally arrived on a cold, February morning, I was absolutely ecstatic! This was an especially interesting shoot for me because Spoonful Apparel, a Twin Cities clothing company, created to inspire, encourage and provide meals to hungry children, I knew I wasn’t going to be photographing the actual making the products.

And what an awesome challenge it was!

From the moment Spoonful Apparel founder and designer, Susan Elwer answered her front door, we clicked! I quickly set up my gear and we moved around her home to show off all the different places and ways she works in her continually growing apparel brand.

We began in the kitchen and moved to the living room, to the basement where all the Spoonful magic happens.

“I’m not that interesting!” … the one sentence I hear more than anything from clients as we prepare for their shoots. Susan is perfect example of this! She was a little worried there wouldn’t be enough to document of her behind the scenes, but the proof is in the images!

Once down in the Spoonful Apparel zone in her basement, we really found the groove. From folding to tagging and taking inventory to packaging an order, there were so many elements of Susan’s story to share!

My personal favorite? It’s a toss up… either the pingpong table that doubles as a folding table (of which I also shot underneath to show Susan taking inventory on the floor next to the table) or the atmospheric wide shots at the shipment table, where a lamp is the only light to shine in the frame!

Want to see the proof that Susan and her behind-the-scenes story IS incredibly interesting? Take a look at our time together!
