Brand photography just got a whole lot more customized!

If you’re a product-based business that‘s looking to build a loyal customer base, listen up!

While it’s important to show the in’s and out’s of your product, it’s equally as important to show your customer who is making the product and how they make it!

1. Photography Helps Support Products’ Prices

Looking for a way to avoid being priced-shopped and losing a sale to a cheaper, low-quality alternative? Show your customer your process.

Bring your ideal customer into your workspace and take them along for a private tour of how you create their next purchase. It’s much easier for customers to see all the steps, details, and handcrafting (not to mention years of practice and experience) and begin to understand all that goes into the products they love.

It really helps avoid the whole “I could totally just make that” though because, hello — “No, you can’t just make what took me 10 years to master!!”

2. It Feels Safer to be Photographed With Your Work

Whenever a client tells me they feel awkward being photographed, I always tell reply, “That’s exactly why I live behind the camera!”

I promise — I understand how awkward and uncomfortable it can feel being in the spotlight and having to stare into a camera lens. You don’t know if they’re capturing your good side, or if they noticed that your hair is doing that thing that you hate, or if your self-esteem is going to allow you to enjoy the photos you’re investing in. You’re preaching to the choir here because I feel all those same feels when I have to get in front of a camera too!

The best part of a Product Creation photo session is that you aren’t the only one in front my lens — your product, brand, and passion are all there with you! It’s like a security blanket that distracts you to let the nerves melt away.

For Product Creation sessions, I document you from a fly-on-the-wall point-of-view. I’ll chime in with a few slight adjustments to help things photograph in the best way possible (tilt this way, shift your weight to your other left, etc), but other than that, it’s just you in your zone!

3. Infuse Your Brand with Personality

If your brand and product cater to a specific audience (because, of course they do!), show them how you relate to them with a Product Creation brand photography session.

Relating to your audience could be showing off your bubbly personality with a lot of laughter while you work, the type of clothing you wear for your session, showing the space you work in, the sky’s the limit!

This gives you a chance to build connections with your ideal customer by letting them see themselves in you and your products. Loyal customers grow from customers who know that you understand them and what they want — and delivering the killer products you’re already creating!

4. Explain Your Processes More Easily

More likely than not, there’s a lot more that goes into creating your products than meets the eye. How is your customer supposed to know that?

Trying to explain how this tool aligns with that piece to create part two of the process isn’t helping anyone! Explaining these processes also helps support your prices — a long process supports a higher price point!

5. People Connect With People

When was the last time you felt drawn to a product you found scrolling through Instagram? I’m not talking about that modern design toothbrush or beautiful sheets that keep popping up in your feed that will look great in your home. I mean something that you were so excited to talk about when you received a compliment (and not about the great deal you got on it!). Something that you felt was an extension of yourself because of the quality of the product, the values of the company, and knowing that you were supporting a brand that aligns with you individually. That is something truly special!

Remind customers of the people creating these products. People whose livelihoods are directly impacted by each purchase. These are the people whose faces and stories will connect with your ideal customer to turn someone who’s casually scrolling into a follower, and a follower into a customer, into an email list subscriber, into a loyal customer who tags you on social and sings your praises!

Aren’t those the kind of customers you really want to attract anyway?
